Rory McIlroy took over the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, displacing Jordan Spieth while Jason Day stayed put at No. 3 after his Barclays victory.
McIlroy recently held the No. 1 spot for more than a year – from the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational to the 2015 PGA Championship – before relinquishing it to Spieth, who is No. 2 this week, for two weeks.
McIlroy is expected to play this week at the Deutsche Bank Championship, and is sixth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Pro Rankings.
