Pettersen Tames Turnberry, Sets 2nd-Round Lead

TURNBERRY, Scotland — Suzann Pettersen was the only player to break par in tough conditions for the early starters at the Women's British Open on Friday, shooting a 3-under 69 to set a challenging clubhouse lead in the second round.

While her rivals floundered in the stiff breeze off the western Scottish coast, the Norwegian double major winner said she was in "100 percent control" of every shot in one of her best rounds.

The sixth-ranked Pettersen moved into a tie for the lead on 7-under par with Hyo-Joo Kim, who was among the later starters on a day when golf took center stage at Turnberry after the grand arrival of American presidential contender Donald Trump stole the spotlight on Thursday.
