Stephen Curry Will Not Play In The 2016 Olympics, More To Follow?

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry will not play for Team USA in the 2016 Olympics, reports Marcus Thompson of the San Jose Mercury News.

Curry is opting to let his injured right knee completely heal after he suffered a sprained MCL in their first round series against the Rockets. Golden State has downplayed that injury since Curry's return, but this decision makes it clear that the injury is still bugging him.

However, Curry may not be the only star Warriors player to take their name out of the running for the Olympic team. Thompson says Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala may follow suit due to concerns over the Zika virus.

Neither have told USA Basketball they are out and are still wanting to play. But they are keenly watching the developments.

According to sources, players have been advised to not bring their families to Brazil and to sleep in malaria nets to avoid being affected. That raised red flags among some players.

Those concerns don't seem to affect Draymond Green, who Thompson said will play in the Olympics if he is invited to play on the team. Pau Gasol is another player that has expressed concern over playing in the Olympics due to the virus.

Iguodala has a gold medal from the 2012 Olympics, while neither Curry or Thompson have won one - but they were on the 2014 FIBA World Cup team that won the championship.
