Warriors Rumors: Top 3 Coaching Candidates As Of May 14th

Today's edition of Warriors rumors oversees a scramble in Oakland, as the Golden State Warriors' top head coaching candidate, Stan Van Gundy, just signed a multi-year deal with the Detroit Pistons. We are here to guide you through where the team goes from here, with out Top 3 Warriors Coaching Candidates As Of May 14th:

3. Tom Thibodeau

The Warriors reportedly expressed interest in the Chicago Bulls head coach last week, but no official contact was made. However, the Bulls haven't nixed any potential trade talks for their fiery head coach -- leading to speculation that the coveted defensive mind is available for the right price. With the Dubs scrambling for an impact hire after Van Gundy dropped off their list, Thibs could be a legitimate option as the search progresses.

2. George Karl

George Karl emerges as the safe, experienced option on the Warriors' wishlist -- with twenty-five years of regular season success behind him as an NBA head coach. Karl's spotty playoff resume' may be a bit of a sticking point, as the Warriors are looking to make the jump from good to great in a very short span. However, Karl's never had a chance with a team this talented.

1. Lionel Hollins

If Steve Kerr is actually available, plug his name in here. If not...Lionel Hollins' defensive pedigree and max-effort coaching style could be welcomed with open arms in Oakland. He'll need to calm his "us against the world" mentality down a bit to avoid turning into another Mark Jackson situation...but his advanced defensive scheming could quickly turn the Warriors into a feared top-flight championship contender almost overnight.
