Looking Back: How The Golden State Warriors Championship Team Was Built

The Golden State Warriors won their first NBA title in 40 years by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals, and have a roster that is set up to go on a run of dominance. Here's how the Warriors were built:

2009: Golden State drafted Stephen Curry with the No. 7 overall pick

Many questioned the pick, but he is now the longest tenured player of the current Warriors team - and the MVP.

2010: David Lee Tradedavid lee

Lee arrived in Golden State via a sign-and-trade with the New York Knicks. The Warriors gave up Anthony Randolph, Ronnie Turiaf, Kelenna Azubuike, and a second-round pick.

2011: Bob Myers and Klay Thompsonklaythompson

Bob Myers was hired as assistant general manager, and was promoted to general manager a year later. He's the guy who's mostly credited for assembling the current roster.

This was also the year they drafted Klay Thompson out of Washington State with the No. 11 pick in the draft.

2012: The decision, the draft, and the Finals MVP

In perhaps the most crucial year in the development of this team, Golden State's front office decided to stick with Stephen Curry over Monta Ellis, realizing the two couldn't play together in the same backcourt. Instead of getting rid of Curry, they traded Ellis with Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks for current starting center Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson.

That same year, the Warriors also drafted Harrison Barnes (No. 7 overall), Festus Ezeli (No. 30 overall), and Draymond Green (No. 35 overall). Barnes and Green have become key starters, while Ezeli is the first big man off the bench for Golden State.

And, to put the cherry on top of the 2012 sundae, Golden State acquired Finals MVP Andre Iguodala in a three-team deal with the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz.

2013: Marreese Speights signs with the Warriors as a free agentspeights

2014: Kerr's arrival

The finishing touches of the team were put together was they brought in head coach Steve Kerr and signed free agents Shaun Livingston, Leandro Barbosa, Justin Holliday, Brandon Rush, and James Michael McAdoo.
