The future looks fine for Kirby Smart. The present? Not so much.

ATHENS, Ga. — Kirby Smart can see the future.

In fact, he sees it every day from his office window at the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. Just a few feet away from Smart’s desk is a construction crew feverishly trying to finish Georgia’s new indoor athletic facility. The plan is to have the building ready in January, just in time for recruiting visits.

“We’re really excited about it,” Smart said.

In addition to being a recruiting tool and a functional practice space on bad weather days, the building also is a tangible sign of the confidence that Georgia supporters have in their first-year coach.
