Michael Matheson Wins Gold with Team Canada at IIHF World Championship


Moscow, Russia - Florida Panthers defenseman Michael Matheson earned a Gold Medal in Team Canada’s 2-0 victory over Team Finland today at the IIHF World Men’s Ice Hockey Championship in Moscow, Russia.

The 22-year old Matheson recorded six points (2-4-6) in 10 games during his first career World Championship tournament.

Panthers forwards Aleksander Barkov and Jussi Jokinen earned Silver Medals with Finland in the loss.

The 20-year old Barkov recorded nine points (3-6-9) in nine games of the tournament, while the 33-year old Jokinen recorded 10 points (3-7-10) in 10 games.
