Cats & Coffee: Rookie Tournament Ends, World Cup Heats Up

Good morning and welcome to “Cats & Coffee,” a weekly segment presented by Community Coffee in which we get you caffeinated with an exciting look at the week ahead for the Florida Panthers.

No, it’s not October yet, but hockey has definitely returned to South Florida.

The future stars of the Florida Panthers got off to a hot start at this year’s Rookie Tournament, defeating the Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals by a combined score of 11-5 behind a tournament-leading five goals from 19-year-old center Denis Malgin.

“As I said, I knew he had a lot of skill, but I didn’t know that he had a 200-foot game,” Springfield Thunderbirds head coach Geordie Kinnear said of Malgin.
