BILOXI, Miss. – Florida Atlantic got a three-run double and a three-run home run in the sixth inning to fuel an 8-4 win over FIU Thursday morning in the second round of the Conference USA Championship at MGM Park in Biloxi.
With the loss the Panthers (31-27) season ended in the double-elimination tournament, the Owls (34-20-1) advanced into the third round.
FIU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after Javier Valdes doubled and senior Nick Day homered off FAU starter Blake Sanderson.
FIU starter Nick MacDonald (7-3) threw five shutout innings before running into trouble in the sixth.
