During preseason camp, Florida coach Jim McElwain called his defense elite and compared it to those great Alabama defenses that helped the Tide win two national championships when he was the offensive coordinator in Tuscaloosa.
That comparison has come up again in the wake of UF’s dominant defensive performance against the explosive Ole Miss offense in a 38-10 Gator rout last Saturday night.
“How well they studied the plan and how well they knew the opponent, I thought this performance was maybe reminiscent of some of those games (by the Alabama defense in 2009-11),” McElwain said.
