Gators fall to Alabama in Gainesville Super Regional opener

Florida Gators softball player Kelly Barnhill was on fire to start Thursday night’s battle with the Alabama Crimson Tide — until the right-handed pitcher was forced to throw overhand.

After four scoreless innings, the Crimson Tide scored three runs on three sacrifice bunts in the top of the fifth. Barnhill, who struck out nine straight batters at one point through the first four innings, had two errors in the fifth, overthrowing first base twice attempting to get the hitter out.

“You could definitely feel the snowball of it,” UF coach Tim Walton said of Barnhill’s collapse.
