Gators gain 2017 quarterback's pledge

Florida coach Jim McElwain has his quarterback for the future.

Jake Allen, a 2017 recruit, verbally committed to the Gators on Wednesday, announcing his decision on Twitter.

The 6-foot-3, 191-pounder from Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas doesn't have a slew of offers to date, but is considered one of the top quarterbacks for 2017.

He's rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports and Scout, who have him ranked as the No. 1 QB in the state of Florida.

Rivals currently has Allen rated three stars, but he won MVP at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge last month.
