New FAU defense means more nickel, and likely more playing time for Ocie Rose

Florida Atlantic defensive back Ocie Rose loves the Owls’ new defense — and not just because he’ll likely see more playing time.

“Everybody gets to be more vocal out there,” Rose said. “We got to talk more in the defense, instead of this person has to know what he has to do and just keep your mouth shut. Everybody just talks more.”

Rose is entering his third season in Boca Raton, having played in 23 of the 24 possible games during his first two seasons as an Owl. But this season will offer an expanded role for the nickelback in new defensive coordinator Chris Kiffin’s defense.
