Florida Atlantic began preparation for Navy on Thursday morning, using a scout team for two practice periods. The Owls host Navy on Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. in FAU coach Lane Kiffin’s first game.
The Midshipmen run a unique triple-option offense that can be tough to defend if a team is not familiar with it. Navy has ranked in the top six nationally in rushing yards in each of the past 15 seasons. So Kiffin gave his defense more than two weeks to prepare.
“Normally, most of our practices, once we get into the week is against the opponent,” Kiffin said.
