Everton midfielder James McCarthy suffers new injury blow after tearing a hamstring in training

The 25-year-old had only just returned to fitness after a hernia operation, but suffered a small tear as Everton coaching staff increased his workload in training last week.

Manager Ronald Koeman criticised Republic of Ireland counterpart Martin O'Neill for playing McCarthy in two World Cup qualifiers earlier this month, accusing O'Neill of 'killing' his player after Everton's medical department said McCarthy had been 'massively overloaded'.
