Last week, we recommended “Mr. Hockey: My Story” by Gordie Howe, an autobiography about Howe’s spectacular, rough-and-tumble NHL career. Today, we recommend another autobiography, and it’s one that is about courage, bravery and overcoming adversity.
“Breaking Away: A Harrowing True Story of Resilience, Courage and Triumph” by Patrick O’Sullivan with Gare Joyce, is exactly what the title makes it out to be. It is the life of former NHL-er O’Sullivan, who had grown up with a love of hockey, but had also been continually abused by his father, whose own hockey career didn’t go as planned.

We interviewed O’Sullivan in December 2015, when the book first came out.
