During the third period of the Oilers 4-1 victory over the Avalanche, Benning took a puck off his foot. He stayed down on the ice for a few moments until Darnell Nurse and a trainer helped him off the ice. Benning would not return.
Post-game, head coach Todd McLellan provided an update on the situation, stating that Benning appeared to be fine.
“I don’t want to jump the gun here, but he looked pretty darn good,” McLellan told the media. “He was walking around back in [the dressing room], he’s got a welt but it doesn’t look like there’s anything broken so that’s a real good sign for us.
