Patrick Maroon scored early in the first period, giving the Oilers a quick 1-0 lead. However, goals soon after from Mikael Boedker and Patrick Marleau made it 2-1 going into the second period.
Over halfway through the second period, David Schlemko added a tally to give the Sharks a two-goal cushion. However, a late second-period power play would put the Oilers back in this game.
Mark Letestu scored his first goal of the postseason with less than two minutes to go in the middle frame and ended frustration for the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who were growing frustrated and trying to break through the Sharks’ defence.
