The Duke Men’s Basketball media guide notes that “there is no higher honor than having your basketball number and jersey retired“, but unfortunately in the one-and-done era of college basketball the most talented players aren’t staying long enough to be able to be recognized by the university and potentially have their jersey retired.
The Blue Devils don’t have an official set of guidelines that a player has to complete before they can have their jersey retired, but it states a player must receive national accolades and, the main criteria, “no jersey will be retired at Duke unless the player has earned his degree”.
