DURHAM, N.C.— After joining the Ajax women recently, Duke University graduate Toni Payne helped her squad claim the Dutch national championship this past Friday evening. Ajax downed ADO Den Haag, 2-1, in the title match.
With the victory, Ajax will play in the Champions League next season.
Payne graduated from Duke earlier this month, after a standout career with the Blue Devils. She tallied 23 goals, 21 assists and 67 points over four years. She started 86-of-90 matches at both the midfield and forward positions. Payne's 21 assists ranked tied seventh on the Duke record books and finished her career with six game-winning goals.
