MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Led by Duke alumnae Alana Beard and Chelsea Gray the Los Angeles Sparks registered a 77-76 victory Thursday night over the Minnesota Lynx to win the third WNBA Championship in team history.
With the win, a Blue Devil alum has been a part of the last three WNBA Championship teams as Tricia Liston won in 2015 with the Minnesota Lynx and Mistie Bass won in 2014 with the Phoenix Mercury. Beard and Gray became the fourth and fifth Duke women’s basketball players to win a WNBA Championship as Karima Christmas also won in 2012 with the Indiana Fever.
