Al Avila never looked at the Tigers as having a two-year window of opportunity.
“I wouldn’t say the window’s shut,” he said last week. “The two-year window, I don’t know exactly how that became a real big story last year, but I like to look at it as a big window of opportunity and wherever that opportunity takes us.”
Avila has begun exploring opportunities to achieve his off-season goals of gaining more flexibility, on the field and in the books, surveying other teams whose needs potentially match up with the Tigers’ needs on the trade market. Those talks are expected to gain ground in a couple of weeks at the general managers’ meetings.
