Verlander strikes out 10, Tigers win fourth straight

Detroit – The offense has done much of the heavy lifting during this recent Tigers surge, averaging close to seven runs a game.

Justin Verlander eased their load a bit Tuesday night, big-time. He darn-near gave them the night off, blanking the Phillies on three hits over eight innings as the Tigers won their fourth straight and eighth in nine games, 3-1.

Verlander was, well, oppressive. He allowed a double to Freddie Galvis in the first inning and stranded him. He deleted a leadoff single by Ryan Howard with a double play ball in the second.
