Verlander: “I’m too old to be part of a rebuilding process”

Justin Verlander has been hitting the links in Orlando this week for a charity golf tournament, and MLB Network Radio grabbed him on Friday for his first public comments about the offseason. Not surprisingly, he was happy that the rebuild he had feared, and the potential trades that Al Avila had warned him about, never came to fruition.

He never had to decide whether to accept a trade. Judging from his comments on Friday, it would not have been an easy decision.

“It was interesting hearing about it,” he said, “and then that gets your wheels spinning a little bit in thinking, ‘I’m 10-and-5 and I’ve got a full no-trade, so I would have to OK anything.
