J.D. Martinez was among the last players in the Detroit Tigers dugout on Monday night, leaning forward on a bench, watching the Indians mob around the Comerica Park infield in celebration of their American League Central division championship.
“I just remember thinking in my head, I was like, ‘This should be us,’” he said. “This could easily – should have easily – this could have been us.”
It was not the Tigers this year, who were instead forced to watch the Indians celebrate a division title on their home field after a 7-4 win on Monday night that further clouded their postseason chances.
