Reports: Tigers in talks with pitcher Jordan Zimmermann

Reports surfaced late Saturday indicating the Tigers were in “serious” talks with free-agent right-hander Jordan Zimmermann.

Who was characterizing the talks as serious was not divulged. Most likely it was Zimmermann’s agent group, Relativity Baseball. It certainly was not Tigers general manager Al Avila.

While the Tigers have been in reported talks, some characterized similarly as serious, with Tommy Hunter, Joakim Soria, Ian Kennedy, Jeff Samardzija and others, Avila has steadfastly refused to name names.

He declared his intentions from the beginning – to acquire two starting pitchers, a top of the rotation guy and a back of the rotation guy.
