Detroit Tigers trade for CF Mikie Mahtook; designate Anthony Gose

The Detroit Tigers traded for a centerfielder today.

He doesn’t hit much, or have an extensive Major League track record, but perhaps Mikie Mahtook is the kind of low-cost option the team was seeking to help patch its hole in centerfield.

The team acquired Mahtook in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash, according to the Tigers. To make room for Mahtook on the 40-man roster, the team designated centerfielder Anthony Gose for assignment.

Mahtook, 27, hit .195 in 65 games with the Rays last season. In 2015, he batted .
