Two Detroit Tigers received American League honors today.
Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann was named AL pitcher of the month, after turning in the third-lowest April ERA in franchise history. Zimmermann had a 0.55 ERA in 33 innings (five starts). He is 5-0 with a 1.06 WHIP in the first year of a five-year, $110-million contract signed in the off-season.
“It’s been a fun run,” he said after Saturday's win over the Minnesota Twins, in which he allowed one run over seven innings. “I’m probably pitching the best I’ve ever pitched.”
Zimmermann’s April ERA is bested by only two others in Tigers history: Bernie Boland’s 0.
