DETROIT -- Tigers catcher Alex Avila liked what he saw out of Matthew Boyd's slider on Friday, saying it was as good as he's seen from Boyd since Spring Training.
"He had a good one working today," Avila said after the Tigers' 7-3 loss to the White Sox. "And once we were able to mix that in after continuing to get ahead of guys, it got them off the fastball."
Southpaw Boyd turned in a solid performance in his second straight no-decision, allowing three earned runs in seven innings with five strikeouts.
