Tigers have plenty of money to spend this off-season

Mike Ilitch still has some $20 bills in his pocket.

The owner said so last winter, when the Detroit Tigers signed Victor Martinez to a long-term deal, and nothing figures to have changed dramatically in the year since.

The baseball world expects the Tigers to spend this off-season – especially on starting pitching – and it’s looking likely that they will fall into a similar payroll figure as last season.

As of right now, the Tigers have around $123 million tied up in salaries.

According to MLBTradeRumors.com, their arbitration-eligible players are predicted to earn roughly $17 million.
