Tigers News: Justin Verlander gets first two MLB hits, wins first of 2014

In Tigers news today, Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander had a career-first against the San Diego Padres on Saturday -- and then he did it again.

Per Mark Townsend of Yahoo Sports, Justin Verlander picked up his first two Major League hits against the Padres, along with notching his first victory of the season.

Here is Verlander's reaction after his first hit, complete with perhaps the biggest grin in Detroit Tigers history (courtesy of Yahoo Sports):

After the Detroit Tigers' perennial Cy Young contender picked up hit number one, the dugout also exploded with smiles:

When it comes to Verlander's pitching, he was his normal self on Sunday. He gave up just two earned runs on eight hits in seven innings, once again providing the Detroit Tigers with a quality start.

However, Saturday, April 12th, 2014 will always be remembered by Detroit Tigers fans and Verlander alike as the day Verlander broke through offensively -- he is now 2-for-28 on his career.
