Report: Tigers acquire David Price from Rays via trade

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Detroit Tigers have just acquired David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays in a blockbuster trade deadline deal:

Per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the trade will be a three-way deal between the Tigers, Rays, and Seattle Mariners:

Speaking on the MLB Network, Heyman indicated that Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson and 25-year-old starting pitcher Drew Smyly will be on their way out of Motown, with Jackson pulled off the field in the middle of the Tigers' afternoon tilt with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.

Heyman confirmed this via Twitter moments later, indicating that the Seattle Mariners have picked up the dynamic Jackson in their part of the exchange:

Later, Heyman indicated that Seattle shortstop Nick Franklin will land in Tampa Bay as a part of this mega-trade.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reportedly earlier in the day that the Rays were "definitely" going to trade the former AL Cy Young Award winner. His words proved prescient.

The Detroit Tigers now have another ace at the front of their rotation (along with Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander) to counteract the Oakland Athletics' earlier deal to land Jon Lester from Boston. The two recent playoff rivals now seem almost destined to lock horns once again come October.
