Matt Boyd held out of Toledo start as Detroit Tigers ponder

TOLEDO -- Left-handed pitcher Matt Boyd was held out of his scheduled start for Triple-A Toledo this morning because of the uncertainty about Jordan Zimmermann’s availability for his next start for the Detroit Tigers. Zimmermann left his last start with a right groin strain.

But Boyd still is in Toledo, according to Mud Hens manager Lloyd McClendon.

“Matt Boyd will not pitch today, given the circumstances of what’s going on in the big leagues and the possibility Zimmermann may or may not make his start,” McLendon said. “Decided to hold (Boyd) off and make sure he’s available in case they need a pitcher.
