Detroit Tigers Sign Closer Joe Nathan to a Two-Year Deal

The Detroit Tigers have reached a tentative agreement with free agent closer Joe Nathan that will bring the 39-year old to Detroit for two years. Nathan, who last played for the Texas Rangers, saved 80 games over the past two seasons and has had at least 36 saves in eight of his seasons as a pro.

Yesterday's trade that sent Doug Fister to the Nationals for three players saved the Tigers around $7 million, and that money is expected to go towards Nathan and re-signing star pitcher Max Scherzer.

While the agreement with Nathan hasn't been formally announced as of 2:30 pm Tuesday, it's expected to be confirmed by the Tigers in the next few hours.
