Detroit Tigers News: Andrew Romine, Hernan Perez To Compete For Roster Spot In Spring Training

The Detroit Tigers have one utility infielder role and two players with a chance to fill it this spring, creating an interesting competition to watch when exhibition play gets underway.

Per Chris Iott of MLive.com, "Andrew Romine and Hernan Perez will compete for a spot as a utility infielder during spring training. Both of them are out of options, so the Tigers will risk losing one of them should they not carry both of them on their opening day roster."

Iott adds that there's a slight chance that the Tigers could carry both of them on the major league roster heading into the 2015 MLB season, with one of the two essentially functioning as the team's fifth outfielder.

While Iott calls that "unlikely," he adds that fans should expect both players to take fly balls during Spring Training just in case.
