Red Wings waive Drew Miller as Niklas Kronwall returns

Detroit – The Red Wings activated the veteran defenseman, and one of their core leaders, Niklas Kronwall Sunday, and to make room for him on the roster they placed veteran forward and penalty killer Drew Miller on waivers.

Kronwall was to enter the lineup Sunday against the New York Rangers, according to coach Jeff Blashill.

He has missed eight games, since Jan. 4, and has appeared in 25 of the Wings’ 46 games to date.

Kronwall’s play began a noticeable decline last season, amid knee problems accumulated in his 13-year career, but he remains one of the Red Wings’ best defensemen.
