Red Wings recall Athanasiou from AHL

The Detroit Red Wings today announced that they have recalled forward Andreas Athanasiou from Grand Rapids (AHL).

Athanasiou, 21, has one goal in six games with the Wings this season. He made his NHL debut against the Dallas Stars on Nov. 18 and scored his first NHL goal in his second career game, Nov. 10 against the Washington Capitals.

He also amassed eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points in 26 games with Grand Rapids.

Athanasiou (6-feet-2, 192 pounds) was a fourth-round pick by the Wings in 2012 NHL draft.
