Marchenko added to World Cup roster

DETROIT – One addition and one snub.

That’s what the Red Wings learned when the six nations competing in September’s World Cup of Hockey revealed the final seven roster spots for each squad on Friday.

Wings defenseman Alexey Marchenko was added to the Russian team but forward Gustav Nyquist, who seemed a shoo in coming off an outstanding effort at this month’s World Championship, was left off Sweden’s 23-man roster.

Eight Red Wings will compete for six different teams, meaning Detroit will be represented in every tournament contest beginning with the 12 preliminary-round games set to start on Sept.
