Stanley Johnson catches Stan Van Gundy’s eye in first practice of the year

Stanley Johnson just keeps impressing. After dominating the Orlando Summer League and a couple big showings in The Drew League in Los Angeles, the 19-year-old rookie from Arizona has continued to put on a show. According to David Mayo of MLive, Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy said Johnson looked like one of the best players on the floor in five-on-five drills.

“He looked good. Played very, very well Was one of the better players in the little bit of five on five we did,” Van Gundy said. “He’s got to work on building his defensive habits, there’s no question about that, but his competitiveness is there and he knows how to play the game, so he’s got a little bit of a head start.
