WASHINGTON — Emmanuel Mudiay was a surprise last-second scratch from Thursday night’s game as he couldn’t play with a sprained right ankle.

Mudiay injured the ankle in Wednesday’s game at Brooklyn.

The Nuggets’ starting point guard went through his normal pregame warm-up at the Verizon Center before it was decided he could not play. It was the first game he missed this season. He had started the previous 22 games.

Jameer Nelson started in Mudiay’s place and scored 10 points with eight assists.

Mudiay has struggled of late, so the night off may have been needed anyway.
