To say that Denver has been hit with the injury bug would be a severe understatement. Danilo Gallinari will likely be out for a month, Timofey Mozgov hasn’t played in a week and Nene hasn’t been able to stay healthy all year. As a result, Denver has dropped six of their last eight games.

1. Kosta Koufos seems to be the only player living up to his new contract.

Now, I say that mostly because every other Denver player to get a new contract, (Afflalo, Gallinari, Nene) has spent way too much time in the training room. But even when Afflalo and Nene have been healthy, they haven’t really lived up to the money they received in the off-season. The only reason why Gallo is on this list is because he isn’t physically able to live up to his contract due to a chip fracture in his ankle. But still, Koufos has passed Chris Anderson on the depth chart and is certainly taking advantage of injuries to Denver’s starting big men. Koufos has played 26 minutes in each of his last three games. During which he has averaged 9.3 points, 10 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 2.3 steals per game. Not bad for someone who just signed a 3-year $9 million extension.

2. Afflao finally looks to be finding his groove.

Despite shooting poorly in Denver’s most recent loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Afflalo seems to be picking up some of the slack in the scoring department while Gallinari is sidelined. In the five games since Gallo went down, Afflalo has averaged 16.8 points per game which is five above his average for the season. Afflalo seems to have regained some of his confidence and is taking more shots. Afflalo has been disappointing so far this season, but hopefully he can build on his recent success and prove why Denver spent the big bucks on him.

3. The Wilson Chandler drama has begun.

There will be an entire focused on this within the next couple of days. But here is a quick preview. When Denver traded Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups, Chandler was thought by some to be an even better prospect than Gallinari. If that is even close to the case, then Chandler’s return to Denver could be the spark that the Nuggets so desperately need.  The problem is that he has yet to be released from the Chinese Basketball Association. Even when he does get released, he is a restricted free agent and there is a high possibility teams will try to pry him away from the Nuggets. A more in depth look at the topic will follow shortly.
