Broncos Rumors Roundup On Left Tackle Search, Joe Thomas And QB Competition

NFL free agency is well under way and the Denver Broncos have found themselves at the center of several rumors. The Broncos made a few moves early in free agency, mostly on the offensive line. With the NFL Draft coming up, Denver isn't done yet. Here are the latest Broncos news and rumors you need to know.

Broncos Still Upgrading Offensive Line?
Denver has already added OG Ron Leary and OT Menelik Watson, but they might not be done overhauling the offensive line quite yet. General Manager John Elway said the team was still looking at a way to upgrade the left tackle spot.

"Well [the left tackle position is] still open and we’re not done," Elway told BSNDenver. "Watson’s played some left tackle. We are going to take a peak at [Donald] Stephenson there. We feel like we have some different options. We aren’t done yet. Last time I heard we don’t go to camp until July, so we don’t have to have that fixed just yet. We will figure out how to get that done."

The Broncos could also look towards the NFL Draft for more offensive tackle help. At least one of the Cam Robinson, Garrett Bolles and Ryan Ramczyk trio should still be on the board. Those are the only three OTs generally considered to be worth a first round pick.

Joe Thomas Rumors
The Joe Thomas to Denver rumors have been around since before the Broncos actually almost netted him a trade before the NFL Trade Deadline in 2015. And they're back once again, this time thanks to comments made from Thomas' agent, Peter Schaffer, who is based in Denver.

“I’m doing my best," Schaffer said on Denver radio show. "Joe’s such a good person that he’s never gonna complain about being on the Browns. He’s an incredibly optimistic guy. As they rebuild the team, he gets more and more excited about the direction that team’s going. He did me tell me though, that if there’s any place he’d like to be, he does love the Rocky Mountains."

A Joe Thomas trade still seems a bit unlikely, and he's still under contract until after the 2018 season. But, comments like that will continue to keep the rumors alive.

The Upcoming QB Battle
Unless the Broncos land someone like Tony Romo (which remains an option), there will be a QB battle between last year's starter Trevor Siemian and first round pick Paxton Lynch. The latter recently spoke about the battle to be starting QB.

"I'm very excited," Lynch told the team's website. "I feel a lot more comfortable, especially having a year under my belt, doing that five-step, seven-step stuff that I never did before until I got to Denver. I think that helped me a lot, so I'm just trying to not lose a step and keep moving forward."

The Broncos did trade back up into the first round for Lynch, so they view him as a potential franchise QB. Their hope is that Lynch takes a big step forward this year.
