Legendary cornerback Champ Bailey is planning to retire, according to his agent. The news was first reported by ProFootballTalk. After being released as part of the New Orleans Saints' final roster cuts, Bailey had tryouts this fall with Detroit and Baltimore, but neither offered him a contract.
Bailey, 36, played for the Broncos from 2004 to 2013. A 12-time Pro Bowler, Bailey is widely considered as one of the greatest defensive backs in NFL history. The seventh overall pick out of Georgia in 1999, Bailey played five seasons for the Washington Redskins before being traded to the Broncos in exchange for Clinton Portis.
Bailey ends his career with 909 tackles, 52 interceptions, and 9 forced fumbles. A member of both the NFL's 2000's All-Decade team and the Denver Broncos' 50th Anniversary Team, Bailey also owns an NFL record as the youngest player to intercept three passes in a game.
