D.C. United ended a two-month, eight-game winless streak Saturday without putting the ball in the net. The Colorado Rapids did the work for United.

Defender Jared Watts scored a howler of an own goal in the first half on a wayward, 40-yard back pass that skipped past goalkeeper Tim Howard. The absurd sequence was warmly welcomed by United, MLS’s lowest-scoring team, which collected a 1-0 victory before 16,089 at DSG Park in Commerce City, Colo.

D.C. (6-15-4) had not won since late June against Atlanta. The result also ended a seven-game losing stretch on the road.
