11 things to know about D.C. United a week before the season opener

1. Ben Olsen did not want to overtax his probable starters in the build-up to the March 4 debut against Sporting Kansas City. So with two friendlies over four days this week, he started the presumed second unit against second-flight St. Louis FC on Wednesday in Clearwater, Fla., and saved the first-choice group for the bulk of the preseason finale Saturday against the Philadelphia Union, a tuneup falling seven days before the real thing at RFK Stadium.
