The former AHL rookie of the year and Dallas Stars sixth-round pick hasn't done enough to solidify his spot in the NHL, and as he is waiver-exempt, the Stars didn't risk losing him like they would a player like Colton Sceviour or Travis Moen.
The demotion means that Mattias Janmark has made the club. If he hadn't made the club, he was likely going to be sent back to Frolunda in Sweden.
