Acquiring Jiri Hudler has its costs, but good teams find ways to get good value; and that's what Stars did

Jiri Hudler has value.

Maybe not the $4 million a year, Lady Byng-winning, 76-point value he had in the 2104-15 season with Calgary, but certainly more than the $2 million he got from the Stars Wednesday.

Hudler signed a bargain-basement one-year deal with Dallas Wednesday for $2 million. That's half of what Ales Hemsky will make, almost half of what Cody Eakin will make, and $200,000 less than what Antoine Roussel will make. Hudler last season in 73 games with Calgary and Florida tallied 46 points (16 goals, 30 assists). That would have put him fifth on the Stars.
