Mavs Rumors: Carlisle thinks Mavs are prepped for run at LeBron, Melo

In today's Mavs rumors surrounding the impending start of the 2014 NBA free agency period, Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle believes that the team is in position to make a run at a major star this offseason.

Per Eddie Sefko of the Dalas Morning News, Carlisle remains optimistic about the Mavericks' chances despite the glut of teams which will be vying for the services of top players such as LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

“We did get a star last summer,” Carlisle said, again making sure to spin the best possible outlook. “Monta Ellis is a star. He didn’t make the all-star team, but he was a 20-point scorer the majority of the year. He had perhaps the best year of his career, and he was the decisive ingredient for us going from a .500 team to being a playoff team and getting right to the altar in the first round."

"I believe he’s a draw. I know Dirk’s a draw. Tyson (Chandler) will be a draw, and we’ve got other good players under contract, too.”

Chandler could help sweeten the Mavs' pitch at least when it comes to Melo, due to the players' history together playing with the New York Knicks.
