Mavericks’ free agents, keep ‘em or let ‘em go: J.J. Barea

J.J. Barea
Status: Unrestricted
Details: 6-foot, 175 pounds, nine NBA seasons
Age: 30.

The case for keeping him: His playoff numbers this season were terrific. He averaged 11.8 points, 7.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 30 minutes per game in the first round. If the Mavericks had gotten anything close to that from Rajon Rondo after trading for him, they’d have been thrilled. Barea is a perfectly suited for Rick Carlisle’s system as the change-of-pace guard off the bench. And he clearly can succeed as a starter if need be.
