Mavericks News: Nowitzki vs. Duncan a "showcase" for two future Hall-of-Famers

In Mavericks news today, one of the most intriguing subplots of the Dallas Mavericks' first round series against the San Antonio Spurs is watching future Hall of Famers Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan square off on the big stage.

So posits Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com: "Sure, we’ve seen it before. In fact, it’s happened five times, with mixed results and many magnificent performances by two Lone Star State, one-team superstars. But there’s no guarantee we’ll see it again, no matter how good the all-time greats look in their golden years."

Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle agrees fervently with MacMahon's analysis --

"It’s a showcase for two of the 12 greatest players of all time," Carlisle stated. "Both of those guys have been more than 10-time All-Stars, league MVP and Finals MVP. There’s only a dozen guys that have done that and you got two of them. They still play like they’re in their prime, both those guys."

Despite lengthy and taxing careers, both Duncan and Nowitzki are digging down deep to show off the skills which helped to garner them such immense praise.

The winners? Dallas Mavericks fans, San Antonio Spurs fans, and NBA fans in general.
